"I Should Do This" Is Someone Else's Idea of Perfection

On Fridays I blog.

But I can't write in my actual blog first. I have to start the writing process in a Facebook post because I know my audience there the best and then I'll transfer it over to this blog and slap a picture along to go with it and call it a day.

So that's been helpful for me.

But Fridays are hard content-wise because I get caught in the trap of, "What should I write about?" This is always a bad looming place to start because SHOULD is a dirty word.

Should is someone else's idea of perfection... not mine.

So starting out with that question is always setting me up to fail.

I then have to rephrase it and ask myself: What do I WANT to write about?

My blog is like a blank canvas on an easel with a paintbrush in hand.

It's a way to express my creative voice and doesn't have to be for anyone else except me at the end of the day.

I hate putting pressure on myself that it has to sound and feel professional. That is not what my blog stands for. It's not a step by step list of instructions on how to start a business.

My blog is a platform to talk about the things that no one else is talking about and to use my powerful coaching skills through electronic words.

I have the power to run my business the way I want to. Not how I think it SHOULD be run. But it's so easy to constantly fall into that trap.

I've noticed that when I pour my heart and soul messily into a post that it gets the most engagement and so I know this is the yearning answer that my audience craves.

They need to hear the raw unfiltered side of me more than the polished professional side. There's a time and place for that but not in my blog. My blog is just for me.

Thank you for letting me say this out loud today to remind myself that I am the artist in this business and no one else gets to control my creativity.

I own this process and can let it take the shape and form it needs to best serve me and my people.

Where have you been struggling in your content creation? Is it your voice or someone else's that's taking the lead?
